Using stunning footage captured by documentary filmmaker and cinematographer Ismaele Tortella, Roel Melman shares his experience in Øksfjord, Finnmark, where he joined fellow volunteers to help restore a kelp forest.

The project is a collaboration between Rissa Citizen Science, Lopphavet Marine Protected Area and artist Emma Gunnarsson (Arctic Lux). Ismaele Tortella completes the team in the field.

The project has two main goals: first, to raise awareness within the local community about the importance — and the decline — of Norway’s kelp forests; and second, to restore a kelp forest along the jetty in Øksfjord.

More about the project in this first article.
