Join a free daytrip to Kvaløya & restore nature
For travelers only!
The Traceless Northern Lights Tourism Project
The nonprofit Rissa Citizen Science and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) are partnering on a research project to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of Northern Nights tourism in Tromsø, with a particular focus on campfires.
One part of this project is to engage travelers in mapping campfires and restoring nature in locations used by Northern Lights hunters.
Join us for a day trip around Kvaløya (the Whale Island),
and volunteer to map and remove campfires
while exploring fjords, mountains and beaches
in some of the most beautiful areas around Tromsø.
-
Pickup time: 10:00 (in Tromsø city center)
-
Return time: 14:30
More about the project here on Rissa CS' website, and on NINA's website.
This is not a commercial tour: By joining, you agree to volunteer to an ongoing research project, and to test methods developed by NINA scientists. For Rissa CS and NINA, this project is an opportunity to raise awareness and promote leave-no-trace practices in nature.
