About the event
As part of the Ocean Green project, led by Ava Ocean, you are invited to join the opening of a very special exhibition at Sørsjetéen, in Tromsø city center.
Kelp and other seaweed species are now thriving along the southern side of this jetty, thanks to a community effort led by Rissa Citizen Science. Together, we turned an urchin barren into a fantastic underwater jungle, and refuge for many marine species. Some very talented photographers joined the effort too, documenting the change in the sea. Clément Brun, Liga Sirava and Ann Cools are some of them, and they captured the beauty hidden below the surface. Very few people know how colorful and rich the sea was in the Arctic before overfishing disrupted the ecosystem. Sørsjetéen is a reminder of this past, but also hopefully of the future when large-scale restoration will lead to the return of lie in the sea.
The exhibit is partly funded by Ocean Green through Norway’s Green Platform, endorsed by the UN Ocean Decade and led by Ava Ocean. It is also supported by Ocean Green’s partners—NIBIO, NIVA, Hofseth Biocare, and Akvaplan Niva. CEWE kindly sponsored the exhibition. Photographers Clément Brun, Liga Sirava, and Ann Cools generously allowed us to print their beautiful images free of charge. Tromsø kommune and Tromsø Havn facilitated the project and approved the installation.
We will meet at 10:30 at Sørsjetéen.
