Contribute to finding solutions to reduce soil erosion and biodiversity loss on Fløya.

Time & Location
23 Jul 2026, 13:00 – 17:00
Fjellheisen, Sollivegen 12, 9020 Tromsdalen, Norway
About the event
Visitor numbers on Fløya have grown to almost 250,000 per year through the cable car alone.
This citizen science project aims at testing methods to reduce trampling and soil erosion (https://www.rissa-cs.org/fl%C3%B8ya).
Rissa Citizen Science is partnering with researchers from the Arctic University of Norway (UiT) and the Norwegian institute for nature research (NINA) to explore possible alternative to "allemansretten" (the "right to roam"), and identify ways to balance public access with the protection of nature. Fjellheisen is facilitating the logistics (there will be a few free tickets for those who are not using the sherpatrappa).
What we will do today:
Observe the effectiveness of measures designed to encourage hikers to stay on the main path,
Survey hikers as part of a social science experiment,
Measure trail erosion by recording simple indicators.
Bring snacks, water + clothes adapted to the weather.
If rains is forecast, we might cancel the day before.
