Om arrangementet

Welcome to DAY 1 of this workshop in Muséparken!

Through the research and development project ViNN (Vegetation in Northern Norway), it is being tested here in Muséparken how we can use wild perennials/herbs in ornamental planting in a city park. The plantings are done by teachers and students at the landscape education program at UiT in collaboration with Rissa CitizenScience.

As part of the project, the use of sea urchins as soil improvers and the effect of sea urchin guano on plant development are also being tested.

The project is funded through Arctic 2030, which is a collaboration between Troms, Finnmark and Nordland , and will have an effect throughout Northern Norway.

At 13:00

The workshop will start with short presentations:

  • Intro to the work with info and goals of the R&D project ViNN as a part of the world shop.

  • A little about the kittiwwake from Rissa Citizen Science

  • Kjeld Nash & Lawrence Masltaf the architect and artist behind the hotels

  • Plant ecologist Eva says a little about the ecological assessments that form the basis for the work that will be done.

  • Campfire coffee + biscuits and fruit

14:30 - 16:00

More about ViNN:

The ViNN project (Use of Northern Norwegian vegetation from an industrial perspective)  is an interdisciplinary R&D project that investigates how native vegetation in Northern Norway can be used in a more systematic and sustainable way in green spaces. The project brings together actors from the entire value chain – from developers and designers to manufacturers and contractors – to develop knowledge, methods and practices for the use of local vegetation. The goal is to strengthen both ecological quality and industrial development by facilitating local production, increased climate resilience and better utilization of the region's natural resources.

Why is ViNN important?

Climate change and the current use of standardized, often non-native plants are leading to a loss of natural diversity and increased spread of alien species . At the same time, we lack knowledge and practice for how local, northern Norwegian vegetation can be used in green spaces.

ViNN is important because the project develops sustainable, site-specific solutions  that strengthen natural diversity, climate adaptation and lay the foundation for new business development.
